Mark Making

Art Explorations in Multiple Materials

In this open-ended class we’ll use inspiration from writing, art and music to find our Artist within. We will explore the ideas presented by the different arts to find a thread to connect the drawing, painting and sculpting as part of the experience. Along the way, we’ll learn about contrast, composition, color and line. We’ll use drawing, painting, sculpture and digital work to create.

Sculpt-ology

Paperclay Sculpting

Maybe you’re getting ready for the holidays or just aching to get your hands into dimensional characters. You’ll learn how to make art dolls and sculptural figures using air-dry paper clay using everyday materials like: cardboard armatures, wire and newspaper. Come join the fun! Sculpt-ology is open to artists of all abilities. Come join the fun!

What to bring? Clothes you don't mind getting grubby. Maybe an apron. The materials we will be using are non-toxic but they are permanent so... If you already sculpt, bring some of your favorite tools, knives, wires, smoothers, and so on but we will have a variety of tools to use while you are at the Studio. It would also be good if you have an idea and references of something you would like to sculpt - a face, a mask, a favorite animal. But no fears if you have no idea about what to do! We'll come up with a winning project, just for you.

Digital Alchemy

Create Digital Art with Adobe Photoshop

In this class, we'll create digital art projects using photo manipulation, digital collage, typography, digital painting and alterations. We'll learn basic tools and techniques to give you the basis to move on to more advanced works. If you are just a beginner or even an intermediate artist, you'll find plenty to learn here.

We will work with the fundamental principles of good design, including typography, color, white space, balance and contrast. And explore media manipulation—photography of and digital painting—is best to tell a particular story. This is a an intro class but there is info here that even an experienced user might not know.

Class sizes are small, due to the limited number of our Macintosh work stations, but if you want to bring your own machine - feel free! You need to have at least Adobe Photoshop CS2 loaded on your computer. Bring a 2mb thumb-drive to take your files home.
